Happy Libra Season! With the Autumn Equinox having just passed yesterday, Libra Season officially marks the beginning of Fall in the Northern Hemisphere! Fall is hands down my favorite season and as a Libra Moon who is married to a Libra Sun, Libra is one of my faaaavorite signs. Libra is well known for being a sign of harmony, balance, and compassion. Libras are excellent at developing relationships and navigating challenges with diplomacy, often tactfully finding solutions that work for everyone.
However, this Libra Season has a big monkey wrench showing up for us— a potent Venus Retrograde in Scorpio (officially from October 3rd to November 13th). As we shift from Libra Season into Scorpio Season in late October, we’ll also be getting a Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio (officially from October 24th to November 13th) on top of the ongoing Venus retro. We are already in the pre-shadow period of the Venus Retrograde, which started on August 31st, and the post-shadow period will continue to linger until December 15th. Some of us may already be feeling the Venus Retro (I know I have LOL!) Try to be gentle with yourselves and the people you love. Remember that although certain situations that can no longer continue may come to a head, this Venus retro can also be a time of heightened emotions, conflict, and perceiving situations to be worse than they are. While we are in Libra season, try to tap into the fair-minded energy that values balance and justice when Libra is expressed in some of her highest forms.
All that said, the theme I selected for this year’s Libra Season tarot spread comes directly from my lived experience of some of the challenges of having a Libra Moon. If you care about fairness and harmony, you may sometimes feel like you need to put the needs of a group before your own needs (even if it comes at a personal cost to you.) Libra can bring challenges around speaking up for yourself. The shadow of Libra may make you feel like you need to suppress the parts of yourself that create tension in relationships. We may have a pull to over-give in our relationships, to solve all the problems even if it costs us all our energy.
Part of the growth of working directly with the shadow expression of Libra is understanding that our voices have tremendous value, even if what we are saying is something other people do not want to hear. We are not single-handedly responsible for keeping everyone safe, for managing anyone else’s feelings. We are responsible for our own words and actions. Honoring our truth (even if other people don’t like it) is an important of being fully authentic. People who are meant for you want to hear your truth, your words, your feelings. They will show you that they value you. People who are truly meant for you do not want you to shrink or to settle for less than what you deserve just to keep someone else happy.
This is a straight up shadow work spread with these Libra themes. It helps you explore where you may have prioritized other people’s peace at the cost of your own, how to advocate for your needs, and the power your authentic voice holds. So, if there’s something you’ve been needing to say, Libra is here to encourage you to re-balance the scales. Yes, always consider how your words may impact the people around you, but also recognize how the situation is impacting you.
With Libra and Aries being opposing signs on the zodiacal wheel, some of these lessons from Libra’s shadow can be seen as strengths that Aries may already carry. The upcoming Aries Full Moon may be a good time to continue working on the personal themes that you identify from this spread.
As a final gentle reminder as we navigate these weeks, try to focus on calling in the clarity and justice that Libra offers so as to not get as swept up in the intensity of the Venus retro.
I am wishing all of you a very happy Libra Season, and wishing all of you the best of luck while we navigate the upcoming retros. 🩷
